5 Tips in What to Look for in an Airsoft Gun

Posted by | Posted in Airsoft sniper | Posted on 13-12-2011

Here are some basic tips on choosing an airsoft gun that is right for you. A lot of these factors will depend on what your uses of the airsoft rifle or handgun will be. Some people are looking for a gun simply for their own amusement and others will be using theirs in competitions, so there is a more strict set of guidelines that they should follow. But the tips below should be the main things that any consumer should look for in a quality gun made for this sport.

Tip # 1: Make sure the airsoft gun is made with as much metal as possible.

Most stores that I have walked into that are selling these guns have a wall full of fancy looking AK 47s, M16s, and sniper rifles. But you really need to look past all of that shiny plastic and see what is really made of metal. If you are on a budget, than you don’t need to buy a rifle that is completely metal, but always make sure that at least the gear box is not plastic. A plastic gearbox will break down quickly over time and is not nearly as reliable as a metal one. Also, some parts may seem fine that they are plastic, but when you are running across the field in the middle of a game and drop your rifle you don’t want all of those plastic parts breaking off.

Tip # 2: Buy an AEG and not a gas-powered gun if it will be used outside in the cold.

CO2 powered guns and green gas guns can really pack a punch. And for a handgun there is nothing better than gas power, but you should be aware that cold as an adverse effect on these gas canisters, and they are notorious for not working well in near freezing weather. Now, if you live in Florida then this should not be much a problem, but it’s something that needs to be pointed out before you make your decision.

Tip # 3: Make sure the batter is powerful enough.

Sadly, there are airsoft gun manufacturers that are purposely selling guns with batteries so weak they are not strong enough to keep pulling that spring back for every shot. Over time this will wear down the battery even faster and even cause a few misfires now and then. You should also make sure your battery is big enough to be able to last you an entire game without having to stop to replace it. Of course, you can always carry a back up battery in your pocket, but read up on some reviews of the gun you are looking at to make sure it comes with a sufficient battery.

Tip # 4: Never remove that orange tip at the end of the barrel.

I k now it is tempting to get rid of that bright orange tip on your gun, but it is actually against the law to remove it or paint over it. This is because a bystander or even a police officer cannot tell if it is a real assault rifle or not. After all, these airsoft rifles are exact replicas of the real thing, and it would only be smart to make sure they stood out as recreational guns and nothing more. This isn’t really a tip in choosing a gun, but it did need to be mentioned.

Tip # 5: Look for the FPS rating on the box.

A cheaper quality gun will never really advertise how fast it shoots. The FPS stands for Feet Per Second, and the higher the number the faster it will shoot the 6mm BBs. For recreational use, you should look for something like 215 to 300 FPS, and if you are a serious airsoft enthusiast you can get something more like 300 to 450 FPS. No matter how nice the gun looks you should check for this number, and then buy a chronograph so you can test it out at home.

Metal Gearbox Air Soft Guns

Posted by | Posted in Airsoft sniper | Posted on 12-12-2011

Introduction:

Metal Gearbox AirSoft Guns were first manufactured in Japan in the year 1970. Since then there have been many models of air soft guns with different technology implemented in them. One of the popular air soft is the Metal Gearbox AirSoft Gun. AirSoft are classified into three types. They are spring powered, gas powered and electric powered guns. Tokyo Marui is a famous brand, which manufactures the Metal Gearbox AirSoft Guns. In this article we will be discussing about the Metal Gearbox AirSoft Guns, which fall under the category of electric AirSoft guns.

Air Soft Guns with Gears:

The electric AirSoft guns are operating on the principle of mechanical gears. This type of guns is operated with three gears that are placed in a gearbox. The guns are battery powered and can last for hours. There is a hollow cylindrical portion in front of the gun where the pellets are placed. The three gears are placed along with a piston assembly and a spring. The gears are moved in such a way that the piston will be pulled and released against the spring. The spring in turn will expand and will hit the pellets that are placed in the cylinder. The speed of the shot is dependent upon the amount of force that is exerted over the spring and also the tension of the spring.

Depending upon the size of the pellet the distance covered in one shot varies. Smaller pellets move faster and longer distance compared to larger pellets. The metal gearbox needs to be given continuous power supply from a rechargeable battery. Based upon the battery power the cost of these guns varies. Today there are Metal Gearbox AirSoft Guns which do not have a battery. The metal used to make the case for the gearbox is Nickel Cadmium. The metal gearbox is a simple arrangement and as a result these guns are cheap and also more effective compared to other guns. The gearbox guns are the basis for many of the sophisticated guns that are now available in the market.

Types of Gearbox Air Soft Guns:

There are different varieties of Air Soft that are available. There are hybrid guns, which have shell casing for the pellets. There are low cost guns that have the same technology of gearbox guns with cheap spare parts. Compared to gas and spring guns, the technology used here is more advanced. The AirSoft guns are capable of producing shots as fast as 500-700 feet per second. This speed is achieved by the use of suitable gearbox and spring assembly. Based upon the arrangement of gearbox, spring, piston and pallets, different AirSoft guns are manufactured in different models.

Conclusion:

Metal Gearbox AirSoft Guns are more sophisticated and advanced. They use almost the same technology as used in original firearms. These guns are a little expensive but are really effective. AirSoft guns are dangerous compared to the paintball guns that are available, but people still prefer to use the Metal Gearbox AirSoft Guns as it gives a feeling of using an original military gun.

Which Airsoft BB Weight Do I Need?

Posted by | Posted in Airsoft sniper | Posted on 12-12-2011

One of the most overlooked parts of airsoft is choosing the correct BB weight. The tragedy of new airsoft players is when they spend hours picking out that shiny 0 AEG, only to load it with cheap .12g BBs and break the gun! Oh, and not to mention, you probably voided your warranty as well!

Although there are various weights for BBs, the four most common types you will see are .12g, .2g, .25g, and .3g. A few things you should note: the lighter the BB, the higher your velocity or FPS. The heavier the BB, the more accurate and less affected it is by wind resistance. This means your BB will actually travel further than a lighter BB, even though the lighter BB will have a higher velocity. The general rule is to shoot the heaviest BB your gun works with.

.12g BBs:

These BBs work well in spring guns or low powered electric guns. NEVER use these bullets in high quality electric guns, as they may jam and destroy the internals! Many manufacturers will consider your gun void if you shoot .12g BBs! One problem with the .12g BBs is that many horrible generic brands are offered at big box stores, and probably shouldn’t ever be used! Make sure they are seamless and precision ground BBs.

.2g BBs:

This is the most common and acceptable weight for airsoft guns. They can be used for almost any gun except very cheap pistols and low powered electric guns. However, they are not suggested for higher end sniper rifles. If you are new to the game, or just aren’t sure which weight to get, this is the one for you!

.25g BBs:

These are heavier grade BBs and should generally not be used in spring guns unless they are sniper rifles. This is often the choice of more experienced airsoft players, as they provide the best accuracy and travel the furthest.

.3g BBs:

These BBs are primarily meant for sniper rifles. They will provide the highest accuracy and distance, and will also pack quite a punch. It is possible to use these BBs in a high upgraded AEG, but otherwise you will be disappointed due to the low FPS.

The other weights you will find are basically just a mix of what I’ve written above, so a .23g BB will trade a bit of accuracy for a higher velocity. You will also find ultra-heavy .36-.43g BBs that are meant for highly upgraded sniper rifles.

Automatic Airsoft Gun

Posted by | Posted in Airsoft sniper | Posted on 11-12-2011

Hobbies come, hobbies go. For gun enthusiasts, they believe that their obsession with a certain hobby will last for a lifetime.

Airsoft guns are primarily used for recreational purposes, although they can be and are in fact used for military purposes where they can simulate battle situations without the risk of mortally wounding the soldiers involved in the exercise.

For recreational purposes, many airsoft gun aficionados are now turning to Automatic Airsoft guns. The demand for automatic air soft gun is so high that it is considered to be the most popular type of air soft gun to date. The automatic air soft guns are electronically charged by rechargeable batteries. Enthusiasts prefer the automatic type of these guns for its convenience and efficiency since non automatic type of these guns have a slower cocking mechanism and is slower to the draw.

The manufacture of these guns had its roots primarily in some Asian countries like Japan and Taiwan but eventually spread to North America in the middle of the 1990’s.

Nickel cadmium batteries powers automatic airsoft gun, the same batteries used in remote-controlled toy vehicles. They have the capacity to fire rapid rounds because power is generated from electricity and not the traditional spring action.

They have different models, assault rifles to sniper rifles. The weapon of choice should be compatible to the scenario one would engage in. Air soft automatic guns comes with accessories that makes the weapon look authentic, it also enhances the performance of the gun.

Is one thinking about taking air soft as a hobby? Well, you don’t have to look far for the best equipment to get you started. As one becomes an expert, then that is the time to invest in heavy automatic air soft guns.

Better also invest in long lasting batteries for if one runs out of batteries, it is equivalent to running out of bullets. Of course, it also shows being wise on a particular product you’re wanting to avail. Nowadays, items get higher prices so you are in the middle of two great decisions. First, to buy costly item and use it for long lasting time, or – purchase less costly but you won’t enjoy using for a very long time. So this requires being wise thinker because this is what we need in a slowly turning expensive world.

I think it is all sufficient now to help you make the first move!

Setting Up an Airsoft Shooting Range in Your Backyard

Posted by | Posted in Airsoft sniper | Posted on 08-12-2011

Have you ever thought about setting up an airsoft shooting range in your back yard? If not, it is definitely a plan that you should look into. By having such an awesome field right behind your house, you can practice target shooting anytime, or just shooting for fun. Remember, your field does not just have to be for practice, and you can use it for whatever you want. If your backyard is big enough, you can also take down the targets and play the sport of airsoft. By having both setups available, you increase the maximum amount of activities that you participate in.

It is not that difficult to install a shooting range behind your house. All you need to do is purchase some targets and some kind of sturdy device that you can hang them on. There are some all-in-one systems that you can take advantage of so you do not need to do any work besides opening the target. However, these are more expensive, and using the former method will save you more money than the latter.

Imagine being able to go outside whenever you want, and taking some shots at your beautiful target range. It might seem a little surreal just imagining it, but what matters is how you feel when you experience it. Before you take the jump to set up the target range yourself, and putting down all that investment, try finding someone else’s range, and getting a taste of what ownership would be like.
